Business Link has named roofing firm Ploughcroft, of Brighouse, a gold award winner of its Bucking the Trend competition at the Yorkshire International Business Convention.
Ploughcroft impressed judges with its nationally acclaimed training centre for builders and its newly-launched Rooferman franchise,
which gets redundant construction workers back into work after five weeks' training.

NATIONAL AWARD WINNERS - TRAINING ACHIEVEMENT 2007
JUDGES COMMENT: An inspirational facility such as this one has
to be greatly admired, especially as it now delivers a wide
range of opportunities for local people in solar technologies,
sustainability, NVQ skills, OSAT craft skills, supervisory and
management.
This award was open to small construction companies employing 25
or fewer people who have made strides in improving their company
through implementing best practice. Judges looked at examples of
where improvements have been made across the board in terms of
people and processes.
In particular, judges looked for evidence of people development;
adopting best practice and new ways of collaborative working.
Entrants were required to demonstrate their working
organisation's commitment to health and safety and describe
steps that have been taken to improve performance in the areas
through the 4 C's of . . .
. . . co-operation, communication, competence and commitment
